House of Tricks 20th Anniversary Celebration

Tempe’s historic landmark restaurant, House of Tricks, will
commemorate its 20th anniversary on Thursday, September
6 with a special dinner and celebration. Owners Bob and Robin Trick
invite locals and visitors alike to “be a part of our history.”
In honor of the event, acclaimed chefs will be cooking up an especially
festive dining experience that will be accented by live jazz with the
Robert Popescu Trio and fine wine sampling from Tricks’ renowned
wine cellar.
Tricks’ award-winning restaurant is housed in two charming turn-of-the-century cottages that make guests feel right at home. A wooden deck and covered outdoor bar connect the cottages and provide a perfect retreat for unwinding with friends. Outdoor dining is delightful on the lush, shady patio brimming with colorful flowers and vines.

West Valley’s new Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffees & Smoothies

Jazz Paths Cross on New CD from Bob Ravenscroft
It
all comes together, literally, on the compelling new CD from jazz keyboard
innovator Bob Ravenscroft. Appropriately called Intersections
1 (Ravenswave Recordings), the new release finds his trio merging
magically on six uncompromising originals, finding common ground from
which they can take off in exciting improvisational directions.
The album opens with the 14-minute “Dreams,” a veritable stream of jazz consciousness, and never looks back. Compositions have single-word titles like “Strength” and “Velocities” and moods range from gorgeously impressionistic to searingly propellant. The album concludes with a very satisfying “Arrival,” one of Ravenscroft’s finest originals to date.
